Pre-Screening for Injections

A comprehensive consultation including a detailed Biomechanical Assessment is performed by Dr. Lawson to determine the appropriateness of injection therapy.   Dr. Lawson, M.Sc., D.C., D.H.N., F.C.C.S.(C), D.A.C.B.N., F.C.C.O. is a Chiropractic Specialist with advanced training in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Nutrition.  He has worked with Dr. Ko for almost twenty years and has over thirty years of experience both academically and clinically. A detailed report is generated and the information is provided to Dr. Ko for consultation and discussion. The injections are usually performed with Dr. Lawson and Dr. Ko present. The injections have the best results when coupled with appropriate therapy and lifestyle support. Components of Functional Medicine will be addressed as well as structural/muscular dysfunction.

Injections are performed at the Canadian Centre for Integrative Medicine (12 Main St. North, Markham,ON) with Dr. Gordon Ko.

Appropriate candidates will be fast-tracked into injection clinic after completing the necessary pre-screening at our clinic.

Types of Injections

BOTOX   - Botox is very effective in reducing muscle spasm and chronic tightness as well as reducing neuropathic pain. By correcting the tightness of muscles and reducing the pain, exercises and rehabilitation will be more effective.

PROLOTHERAPY –A natural proliferant can be injected to "tighten up" stretched out ligaments. This is a non-surgical approach to treat unstable joints of the entire body. Most frequently, the lower back and Sacro-iliac joints are injected.

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) - This is the newest cutting edge procedure that has been used in professional sports to treat muscle, tendon and ligament injuries. Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP is blood plasma with concentrated platelets. The concentrated platelets found in PRP contain huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins, including growth factors that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These bioactive proteins initiate connective tissue healing, bone regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels, and stimulate the wound healing process. A small portion of your blood is extracted and centrifuged to collect the platelets along with the healing proteins. This injection of healing substances from your own blood helps to heal the injured tissues and puts you on the path to full functioning and return to your pre-injury status or better. Professional athletes have used this therapy with great results with sports injuries and it has been shown to be helpful with arthritic joints, lower back pain, degenerative disc disease and more specific injuries including tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ACL tears, shin splints, rotator cuff tears, plantar fasciitis and iliotibial band syndrome. The additional therapies and exercises offered to complement this therapy help to insure that you are fully restored and at least as functional as prior to the injury.

The team approach of Dr. Lawson and Dr. Ko (who have worked together since 1992) will provide specific, gentle and effective injections to minimize any discomfort associated with the procedure.
